Treating arm injuries
Casualties will often support their limb in the position of most comfort and the first aid is to keep the casualty warm, send for help, reassure and monitor.
A splint is anything that is stiff enough, light enough and warm enough that is easily attached. If a splint cannot be improvised then pad and bandage as much as possible before attempting any evacuation.
After applying a splint re-examine the colour, sensation, movement. If the blood supply is restricted bandages may have to be loosened.
